The Philadelphia Eagles were left for dead last season after a number of things flat out ruined them. The first was the fact that the team could not stay healthy. Key players in every facet of the game were out for long periods of time, including quarterback Donovan McNabb. The second factor keeping them down last season was their troubled receiver Terrell Owens. The team deactivated the All-Pro which, in turn, divided the locker room and sent them in a downward spiral towards the NFC East cellar.
The glue that holds the offense together is McNabb who entering his eighth year out of Syracuse. In 2004, McNabb had his best season to date. He threw for more than 3,800 yards and 31 touchdowns and also had a tremendous QB Rating of 104.7. Brian Westbrook, has been the man they turn to the most in the running game and someone who will catch a lot of balls for the Eagles out of the backfield. Westbrook will team up with Todd Pinkston and Freddie Mitchell to form one of the best receiving groups in the league.
The defense should be one of the league’s best once again. Defensive ends Jevon Kearse and Darren Howard will anchor the defensive line. While free safety Brian Hawkins will hold down the defensive backs for the Eagles for one more season. David Akers has established himself as one of the top place kickers in the league by converting 82% of his field goals and 98% of his extra points in his career.
