The New York Giants have been playing in the NFL since the 1925 season. Over their storied history, the Giants have made 25 playoff appearances, 13 via a division championship. They've won nine conference championships and have won six league championships before the days of the Super Bowl. Some people still call them the "New York Football Giants." They earned this nickname in the days there was a baseball team in New York called the Giants. To help getting the teams mixed up they would insert the sport they played into their name.
Their two greatest seasons happened in 1986 and 1990 when they won their only Super Bowls. Legendary tough guy Bill Parcells coached the team during these seasons. Parcells earned a reputation of being incredibly tough on his players. The interesting part of this is that players love and revere him. They feel that he pushed them to be the best players they could be. He has coached some of the Giants and the leagues great players while in New York. He had guys like linebacker Lawrence Taylor, quarterback Phil Simms, offensive lineman Jumbo Elliot and a slew of others.
These days another tough guy coaches the team, Tom Coughlin. On the field, quarterback Eli Manning barks the orders at the team. With a Manning under center Giants fans really like their chances.
