After bouncing back from a bad start in 06, The 2007 Packers are counting on QB Brett Favre to come up with past magic. Season ticket holders to Lambeau Field are hoping The Pack step up this year and get back to the playoff bracket – tough for a team that is relying heavily on its 38 year old QB. They do have a strong receiver in Donald Driver, however, as well as an improved offensive line. With three Super Bowls and various championship titles, The Pack will continue to be a challenge.
The Green Bay Packers have been members of the National Football League since the 1922 season. The Packers won nine NFL Championships before the inaugural Super Bowl. They qualified for the first two games and won them by a combined score of 68-24. These teams were led by the likes of head coach Vince Lombardi and quarterback Bart Starr. The Super Bowl trophy was eventually named the Lombardi Trophy. While in Green Bay, Lombardi compiled a 98-30-4 record in addition to all of the championships that he captured. Bart Starr, after he retired, came back to Green Bay as a head coach, but didn’t have half the success that his mentor Lombardi had. He finished his eight seasons at the helm of the Packers with a 53-77-3.
There is another kind of quarterback under center these days. Brett Favre is entering his the twilight of his career as an NFL starting QB and there’s no doubt he’s a first ballot Hall of Famer. Favre has taken the Packers to two Super Bowls in his career and won a single Lombardi Trophy. He is also the NFL’s only three time winner of the regular season MVP award. He has been named to nine Pro Bowl teams and the last living legend in the NFL. When he retires, the league will miss his gun slinging ways and his over the top fakes when the run a draw play. For the generation that got to see him play, we will all know that we saw one of the league’s best players of all time.
