Season ticket holders to Quest Field should have an exciting ’07 with the Seahawks. QB Matt Hasslebeck, considered outstanding by many critics, has bounced back from injuries and is ready to take the field. RB Shaun Alexander continues to deal with a possibly cracked left foot, but is expected back on the field without major concerns. Their strides forward, combined with a great crew of linebackers makes Seattle a top pick to win the West – after all, they have taken it for three straight years. Fans can definitely expect the Seahawks in the playoffs.
The Seattle Seahawks joined the National Football League before the 1976 season and never seemed to do too much winning since then. The team made their first playoff appearance in 1983 by posting another 9-7 record and followed it with a 12-4 season the next year making another postseason. Their two division championships came in 1988 and 1999, both in the competitive AFC West division. After that the rain of the Great Northwest wasn’t the only depressing thing to look at. The team compiled a sickening 135-143 record from 1985-2002. It’s tough to see a team that is below average for almost two decades.
Then they came across General Manager/Head Coach Mike Holmgren, quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, and running back Shaun Alexander. These three led the Seahawks to Super Bowl XL in 2006 to meet up with the Bill Cowher coached Pittsburgh Steelers. It was an ugly, hard-nosed game that not many people seemed to like, especially Seahawks fans. They went on to lose the game 21-10. Seahawks fans will say they were cheated out of a Super Bowl with questionable calls that led to two Steelers touchdowns and took them away from the Steelers three-yard line.
