Ben Roethlisberger, quarterback is the future of the Pittsburgh Steelers along with running back Willie Parker. The two both enjoyed the leap from obscurity to a household name in their first few seasons. They were two of the main reasons the Steelers won their most recent Super Bowl in 2005. Parker recorded the longest run from scrimmage in Super Bowl history with his 75 yard touchdown run. Roethlisberger will also be remembered for his controversial dive into the endzone to put the Steelers up early in the game as they ended up beating the Seattle Seahawks, 21-10.
The Steelers will forever miss the services of All-Pro running back Jerome “Bus” Bettis. He was a big bruising back and was also the emotional leader for the Steelers during their Super Bowl XL run. The team is hoping that Deuce Staley can step up and fill his role as the designated goal line back.
Since 1970, the Steelers have won 16 division championships and have made 20 playoff appearances. They’ve turned those 20 appearances into five conference championships and four Super Bowls. Chuck Noll coached in Pittsburgh from 1969-1991 and finished with a 209-156-1 record over that stretch. Starting in their championship season of 1974 and extending through their last trophy in 1979, the team finished first in the AFC Central each year and compiled a record of 67-36-1. Bill Cowher stepped in as the new head coach in 1992. Cowher, best known for his scowl, has been with the team since 1992.
