The face of the Houston Texans is quarterback David Carr who played his college ball at Fresno State and posted some unbelievable numbers during his four years there. Carr’s biggest problem in his first few seasons was a terrible offensive line that led to Carr being sacked more than 70 times. Andre Johnson is his main target and will be for a number of years to come.
After the 2005 season, head coach Dom Capers was shown the door by Texans upper management. In his four seasons with the team he amassed an 18-46 record, which won’t provide much security for an NFL head coach. His replacement, Gary Kubiak, was one of the architects of the Denver Broncos offensive attack. Kubiak was one with the Broncos for a number of years, and is bringing that same winning tradition to the Texans.
The Texans organization was harshly criticized for the decision they made in the NFL draft in 2006. They decided to choose NC State defensive end Mario Williams. Any other season, he would have been a very solid pick, but in that draft there were players sitting around like the Heisman winner, USC running back hybrid Reggie Bush and Heisman Runner up Texas Quarterback Vince Young. Bush was one of the most electrifying players to lay their hands on a pigskin on the college level. Young and the Texas Longhorns defeated Bush and the USC team in the Rose Bowl. Young was named the MVP of the game and is also a Houston native. With amazing playmakers already on the offensive side of the ball, the Texans passed on those two. Only time will tell if they made the right decision or not.
