The Vikings start ’07 without coordinator Mike Tomlin – and somehow attempting to improve a passing game that struggled last season. On the offence, the addition of left guard Steve Hutchinson is expected to help. And the Vikings do have Kevin Williams – who is one hard player to get by, along with Pat Williams, who racked up 44 tackles in ’06. With both Williams on call, the Vikings are strong in rushing yards – but Metrodome ticket holders still have to see their team challenge the Bears.
The Minnesota Vikings have one of the more interesting histories in the NFL. They joined the league before the 1961 season. They were one of the better teams back in those days because of their great head coach Bud Grant. From 1969-’76 they compiled a record of 87-24-1. In that same span they went to four Super Bowls in which they played the Hank Stram coached Kansas City Chiefs, the Don Shula coached Miami Dolphins, the Terry Bradshaw quarterbacked Pittsburgh Steelers, and the John Madden coached Oakland Raiders. The Vikings also won 11 division championships for Grant and the team made 12 playoff appearances in his 17 years as coach. The last eight playoff appearances for the Vikings all came under Dennis Green.
