The Buffalo Bills of yesteryear leave fans with a warm feeling in their hearts. The memories of Jim Kelly leading a no-huddle offense down the field makes them feel good. Marv Levy calling plays for Thurman Thomas to dive into the endzone also keeps them warm on those cold, hard Sundays of now. People will also think back fondly to the 1992 AFC Wild Card Game. The Bills, with home field advantage, found themselves down 35-3 early in the third quarter and with backup quarterback Frank Reich leading the team. They thought they had no chance, but the Bills stormed back and forced overtime. Kicker Steve Christie capped off the greatest comeback in NFL Playoff history with a 32-yard field goal and the Bills won the game 41-38.
These days the team is led by signal caller JP Losman and running back Willis McGahee. The team is also working on its third head coach since Levy retired after the ’97 season. Since he’s been gone the franchise has accumulated a sub-.500 record.
Dick Jauron is the man calling the shots as head coach for the Bills these days. He has had a coaching stint in Chicago and he led the Bears to one of the best records they’ve had in recent memory while he was there. Jauron is a defensive mastermind that has been known to put together some very tough schemes. Jauron and Bills fans alike hope that they won’t have to see their team hire a new head coach in the near future.
